Photographer’s Note

The cities of Bordeaux and Quebec have been twinned since May 21, 1962, building bridges in all fields of human activity.

Being forgotten after much glorious days in Bordeaux, the Fontaine de Tourny was brought over from France in pieces and stored on Île d’Orléans, Québec, where specialist craftspeople restored and refurbished it, a project that required 4 years to complete.

On Tuesday, July 3, 2007, Fontaine de Tourny finally sprang back to life in all its majesty, right in front of Quebec Parliament.

This fountain designed and sculpted in the 19th century by Alexandre Lambert-Léonard and Mathurin Moreau received a gold medal at the 1855 Paris World’s Fair. For us Canadians, we don't have a ton of those pieces of art, so it's a very prestigious and precious public ornament.

I have adopted this particular angle and position in order to locate the clock within the convergence of three water jets.
