Photographer’s Note
Whenever I'm back in Canada, I always try to make a trip out to the Westcoast. Roughly an hour and a half from my home town of Port Alberni, it's well worth the drive.
Walking down the beach with a thermos of coffee in one hand, and camera in the other; is a great way to start the day.
It's hard to tell from this shot, but it's mid summer in Canada. Taken early morning before the fog had a chance to burn off. As there was not a lot of color in the photo I decided to convert to B&W to enhance the detail in the driftwood.
I hope you like the photo,
- Dan

Hi Dan
Greetings from Canada ...
I have always found it hard to take effective photos of the driftwood ... but you have done it gracefully ... a bit unconventional but very effective POV.
I like the overall melancholic tone of the photo(i think) further enhanced by the b/w version
cheers for now ..... sarju

Hi Dan - When I first joined TE I recall seeing some really wonderful black & white shots of driftwood at Long Beach. I couldn't remember who did them, but when I saw this shot I knew right away that it had to be you. I think these B&W shots are the best you have ever done - very artistic and beautiful. Superb!

Excellent compo and POV. I can well imagine this was a grey shot with the mist, so B&W was a good choice. As you say the grain is brought out well in the wood

Nice picture. But for a beach, there is not a lot of water? The B&W go very well in this case.
Well done Dan.

The wet foggy look suits this landscape of "natural ruins" well Dan. Good depth in the composition. The leaning trees are in harmony with the dead branches at the top of the picture - a funny detail but I think it makes a lot for the overall impression.

your pov makes this very impressive; like a dragon leaping forward. Looks good in b&w. Well done.

Hi Dan,
It's a well composed photo and I think B&W was an excellent choice.
I like the way you have composed it with the driftwood at the front of the shot, more driftwood further back and the trees at an angle in the background. The detail in the shot is also superb.

Indeed, it's a great shot, a vision of desolation with all these dead trees

My Goodness Dan what the sea wont pull out of the ground and wash up along the shore. This photo sure makes this place look awfully wild in every way. Great details with an amazing scene!
