[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Queenston Shale is a very soft rock, in comparison to
the harder sandstone, limestone and dolostone that
make up the rest of the Niagara Escarpment. Erosion
of the shale can occur rapidly if layers of other rock or
vegetation are removed, and particularly if the area is
impacted by grazing and large numbers of people.
The Badlands probably began to form in the early 1900s when the trees were cut down to allow for a
cattle pasture. The protective layer of vegetation was removed and the shale began to erode; although
farming at the site ended in 1931, erosion of the badlands has continued to its present-day state.
This photo I took near Ingelwood in the morning hours.

Bonjour Ziggy,

¦wietna relacja, dobra kolorystyka i super ostro¶c.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie,
Jurek

Hello Ziggy,
A great capture of this fascinating landscape. An excellent point of view with these strange coloured rocks leading the eyes in a zig-zag through the landscape. Excellent colours and clarity.

Bonjours,

Hi Ziggy, you've taught me something today in this post. I've been up to Terra Cotta a few times, not quite as far as Ingelwood, and didn't know that this area existed. How large an area does this cover? This is really incredible, not very good from an ecology point of view. Your shot shows it well, in very fine detail and colour. Your notes are excellent. This definitely becomes an area I will have to visit when I come back to Canada.

Thanks, John

Hi Ziggy,
Incredible rolling lines and fastastic textured details to this amazing bit of erosion. The red and blue sandstone contrast brilliantly with the lush green spring forrest. The stormy sky adds to this beautifully somber image.
Regards, Tom

Hi Ziggy, impressive shot of this anomalous ground. Nice enhancement of the colors and framing with crystal clear details.

Hi Ziggy
Bizarre landscape with equally bizarre color. TFS
