The Trans-Canada Highway is the longest national highway in the world - 4,860 miles (7,820 km) from its beginning in Victoria, British Columbia, to its end in St. John's, Newfoundland.
This photo is the start of the highway - Mile Zero (even though Canada has gone metric), on the edge of Beacon Hill Park, south of the downtown harbo(u)r. Beyond the park is the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and beyond that you can see some of the mountains of Olympic National Park in Washington state.
Victoria was the midpoint of our two-week trip up the Pacific NW coast (Oregon and Washington) and down the I-5 corridor through Seattle, Portland and the Oregon wine country. We got back home to San Francisco this morning, and now that I can work with a decent screen again, I can see which are the better photos and start showing some of them.
Technical: In RAW, set WB to daylight, raise Clarity and Vibrance. |

hi Dan,
"gone metric" sounds pretty much like "gone postal" :)) but I do appreciate the "u" in harboUr :)
interesting note about the Mile Zero, I did not know about it. and nice spot to start that road, the snow capped mountains in the distance are spectacular. I might prefer that the cars were not cut off, and the image seems a bit dark, but the latter might me due to the screen I'm looking at right now.
with best regards,
Kristine
Hi Dan,
Been there. Mile 0 sign has great symbolism, one unavoidingly starts to think about long open road and the big country. (I only have experience of it between Victoria and Kamloops.)
Very nice park and mountain background. Exposure is darkish I think.
