Photographer's Note

My third picture from inside the Bell-Caves, a corner lit by natural daylight from the entrance opening.
There are 80 diff. sizes caves, over a relatively small area, hands-hewed in the ancient time mainly for building materials, but later in time as "residential's".
The cave is No.14 on the attached link: See this web page to follow .
Beit-Guvrin National-Park is a complex of men-made caves and ruins from as early as the 10th century BC, part of the ancient "Tel Maresha" from before the Helenic era. It is located on the south-eastern part of Israel's coastal-plains.

Hi Ike,

An interesting series of pictures from these caves, there's quite a resemblance to Antelope Canyon here in Az. Not nearly as red in color, but the shape and form is quite similar in appearance. Another fun play of light and shade, giving a strong sense of dimension and even some distance in this particular shot. Having seen the previous pictures, I can still perceive a good sense of scale in this one. Sharp and textured, this turned out nice indeed. Hope all is going well. Take good care.

you composed and cropped this view very effectively, the shapes, textures and mild colours of the cave walls are magnificent, there's a fine sense of motion and wonderful interaction among them. I like very much the tonal variations and the subtle shadows, their play leads to the dark opening in the background which makes a captivating focal point. Congratulations and thank you!

I have been sleeping during the lesson it seems.
I have not seen the previous of the cave shots. I like this one though. I think one of your strong sides is the focus on interesting stuff. It's always interesting here with you. Are they cctv cameras mounted in the crevice at right? I like the minimalist color and superb sharpness, as well as the wonderful tonal range and variety of textures. A good exposure on the bright highlights at right seeping in from outside the cave. Tfs!

un'altra testimonianza molto bella, la foto è ben esposta e ben realizzata, mi sarebbe piaciuto vedere almeno una persona qui dentro, in modo da capire meglio le dimensioni. In ogni caso ricordo le altre foto, in una di queste la persona c'era.

Hi Ike,

The length of the cave is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the interior of the cave. The light is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.

Can’t beat a nice bit of lovely soft lighting & colours, and this indoor capture certainly has that. The subject is simple and there is beauty everywhere if we look more closely at this 'natural still-life' Love how the low lighting has picked out every detail of it and the lower opening lends some indication as to the scale of the cave and the exposure control is seamless. But above all your excellent use of our most precious gadget, the human eye. Wonderfully observed and taken, Congrats

Beautiful shapes and textures from this ancient quarry. Part of me wants to go back and revisit all these places that we were rushed through last May. Probably, it will not be any time soon but I would like to visit Israel again.

also very interesting view of this impressive cave. good light management in difficult conditions. It reminds me a bit Antelope Canyon, but the colour is different. ( I wrote this and now I see that also Jason noticed it).

well, i have to be honest....when i think of Caves, Isreal doesn't exactly come to mind right away :)
But I suppose it should now :)

unlike many caves we see, this one is super super smooth in its texture.

looks almost like the inside of some modern day museum or elegant house.

This looks like the Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. I posted some photos of the canyon on TE long time ago. But I this is more stable than the one in Arizona. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

Cave ed antiche "abitative location" . Il mareriale geologico sembra essersi formato nei millenni nelle forme climatico-tettoniche che in questa "pausa" dei nostri tempi si presentano. La geologia e lo studio della formazione degli strati di "materia" affascina e rende interessante la fotogragia.

You have done a fine job of detailing the colour tones to indicate the bumps and depressions in the rock surfaces.

Beautiful cave in a pleasant light that somehow reminds me of pictures I have seen of Antilope canyon. The waves in the rock created by water long since lost are amazing. Last time we visited Israel we also visited some caves in the Negev, having booked a tour from Eilat. There can many interesting rock formations be found there indeed.

It may sound crazy, but I imagine a giant pipe organ playing at the top of its lungs out the deepest sounds it can emit in such a complex resonance space for a thrilling performance of reverberation on those finely-carved walls!
You captured masterly the best of this cave that sparks interest.
