Photographer's Note

This was in Tanjung Pendam Beach - Belitung Island, as the night was closing. I was trying to capture the dramatic cloud formations which looked pretty picturesque but it just lacked a bit of a focal point, when spotted a lone angler braving the elements. He stood quietly and started to set up for some fishing and never moved.

Fishing is a bit like photography, more hope and anticipation than success but beach anglers are a fascinating subject. It's about the eternal battle of wills and wits, between man and fish, actually a form of meditation, single mindedness and quietude but a relief from the bustle of the world. I was pleased with the silhouette it created and it added some interest to what had been a pretty dull evening. This hardy angler brightened things up a bit for me.

Hope the sun is shining wherever you are...
