Immaculate Spire – Bitonto
The Spire of the Immaculate is an obelisk with the culmination of the statue depicting the Madonna of the Immaculate; is located in the Cathedral square, next to the Duomo.
The spire is made of local stone, the same as the cathedral and the antique palaces.
It was wanted by the clergy of the city after a devastating earthquake struck the barese in the distance in 1731. Bitonto's damage was very limited compared to the rest of the area, the event was considered miraculous for which this votive work was raised in thanksgiving. Commissioned by the Calamita family, quadrangular base with beveled corners is raised for four orders, one smaller than the other, in which three frames are interposed. On them, they sit on the bats sitting or standing with cartegloria and lamps. At the top is the bronze statue of the Immaculate.
