Some Vestas turbines in the area of the Ferndale Wind Farm that were erected in 2006.
Ferndale is an ideal location for the turbines because wind accelerates as it crosses the Georgian Bay or Lake Huron.
Each of these produces 5,000,000 kwh a year, enough to supply 500 homes on average, by means of its huge blades (6 tonnes a piece) mounted on a 78 m (240 ft) tower.
The Ferndale turbines are unique because they depend on consumers to buy thier power, rather than government contracts.
