Photographer's Note

A quick switch to a different part of the world, my homeland, Laos. This is a very nostalgic image for me, A life style that was familiar to me when I was younger, yet it’s strange to me now. It was over 20 years ago since I left Laos. Being back there is like being caught between dream and reality, a strong flood of emotion like a coming home, yet at the same time I felt like I don't belong and no longer fitting in the way of life, like being a stranger at your own home.

Just around the corner of Li Phi Waterfalls in Don Khon in Si Phan Don,
I was there to watch the sunset. The sound of the waterfall so deafening and perpetual, yet it felt calm and peaceful. I was awed by such beauty that surrounded me. Follow the direction of the river flow toward the sun you can see many local along the edge of the water catching fish with nets as the fish jumping upstream.

The fishes they were catching here were about the size of our fingers. Since they can’t keep the fishes for too long, the locals will spread them on the rock to dry by the sun, to preserve them, See Fish Killing Field
