Photographer's Note

I have posted two pictures from Mandawa before and had promised to upload some pictures of the frescos - so here they are. The main picture is of one being lovingly restored to its former glory. In the WS I show some that have yet to be restored.
Mandawa is nearly 200km north-west of Jaipur in the remote Shekhawati region. The area is very arid but became important as trading posts for the ancient caravan routes from China to the Middle East. Although the caravans stopped in the late 18th Century Mandawa remained the home to many rich merchants who built large houses called Havelis which were adorned with brightly coloured frescos.
