Churches are among my favourite subjects for photography, for several reasons. Architecture is one thing, history another. Besides, many of them are very photogenic and the Norwegian countryside is full of wooden churches…

This picture shows the church of Hølonda in central Norway, located around 60 km from Trondheim. The construction was finished in 1848, and this church is one of four in the municipality of Melhus.

When approaching you really don’t expect to find a church, because this is between two villages in the middle of the forest clad mountains and not another house to be seen! The church is situated on the highest point in the area and can be seen from wide distances…
