Photographer's Note
The Main Building of Ellis Island was designed in the French Renaissance style and composed of brick laid in Flemish bond and trimmed with limestone and granite "boasting quoins, rustification, and splendid belvederes." Triple-arch entrances that rose well into the second story marked the east and west sides in a grand style. Both Boring and Tilton attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts which may explain the influence of the French Renaissance style on the project. An analysis in Architectural Record (1902) pointed out the "bloated" character of the detailing and reasoned that the heavy handedness of the facade along with the chromatic scheme made the building easier to read from a distance, appropriate for one situated on an island in a busy harbor.

Hello Lakshmi,
Imposing building, nicely framed in a symetrical view. The blue sly makes a good contrast with the building's colors. The people gives perspective. The colors are well rendered under the strong light. I like the two gulls standing guard.
Have a nice day

Namaskar dear Lakshmi
A very imposing building with quite a history behind it. Beautiful colours and light. The architecture is as you say, a little overdone, but still very attractive. Nice wide-angle view, congratulations.
Warm regards

Living in NYC in the 70th, but never been in this place - fear of immigration dept. ... ha ha ha / my humor only, Lakshmi.
The place looks as a palace, maybe it's sight sweetened the impression the new immigrants saw when first arrive in NY, back early 20th century.
Excelent documentary, describtion and fine detailed view.
Good evening,
Ike

Dear Lakshmi,
Sometimes the straight-on, centered approach works, especially when it breaks "photo rules" which leads to interest and challenges.
I have ususally seen other Ellis Island photos emphasizing the Immigrants and their plights, so your view is different and unique for the intricate architecture of a place infamous.
Good job,
Cheers,
Ray
PS: California had its own Ellis Island in the form of the state crossing at Needles, California at the Colorado River. Many citizens where leaving the Dust Bowl of the Plain States in the 1930s, only to be confronted at Needles, by the California State Agricultural Inspection Station. The 'Inspectors' often refused entry if the people were sickly or even suspicious looking.

Namaskar dear Lakshmi
The architectural style looks similar to the old Queensland Museum in Brisbane & the red brick contrasts superbly against the blue sky. Reasonable sharpness & the fg atrium adds linear perspective. Good saturation with the slightly motion blurred people animating the scene & adding scale. Tfs!

Hello Lakshmi
This is a majestic building captured with great clarity to show the most of its finely-carved design.
Those three arches give it airs of an ancient train station.
A must-see when in New York!
Thanks for showing.

Wrote an architect who N.Y. has many important buildings that it would take a lifetime to visit them.
You make an interesting service you emerge from an "anonymous" streets, neighborhoods, buildings, homes, beautiful presenting them with care and elegance.
Follow you always discover new and exciting, well presented photographically.
