Salahuddin Symmetries, a photo from Selangor, Ouest

Photographer's Note

This is the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, better known as The Blue Mosque of Selangor. Built in 1988, it is probably the most beautiful mosque I saw in Malaysia and claims to be the biggest in the country, with the capacity to hold 24,000 worshippers. Its minarets are also claimed to be the highest in the world, at 142.3 metres in height, but as our tourguide explained, in the competition to build the biggest, the tallest and the best, this may no longer be the case.

In my Workshop you can see a wider view of this same composition. I was not happy with the light in the WS.

Excellent cadrage de cette mosquée à l'architecture très originale. L'image est graphique et bien équilibrée. Comme toi, j'ai une petite préférence pour le cadrage de la version du WS mais la lumière est effectivement meilleure sur le post principal.

Hi Lisa - What an incredible structure and to be honest I like both shots. You have captured a light airy feel with your POV looking up towards the dome which we see through the glass structures. The building is obviously paying homage to traditional Islamic design but here we see a slick and clean modern interpretation. An impressive architectural shot. TFS and go well. Rosemary

Hi Lisa.

Long time no see. My fault.
Anyway, nice to see a shot from you again, and this one full of interesting shapes and patterns. Nice bit of careful cropping, and a little distortion adjusting, I'd guess, all very symmetrical too. It has very gentle tones and I like to see the subtle blue above, with the dome nicely caught in the central diamond.

C'est une superbe composition, et c'est vrai que la lumière est exceptionnelle. Le contraste est également très bon, ce qui est difficile avec tout ce blanc et la lumière extérieure. C'est une très belle photo.

Love how the glass gives a sense of extra height as its climbing up the frame. and your positioning was spot on with the placements of the dome and arch in the middle.
lots to keep my interested, a photo that makes me see many composition options. Wish i were here with my tripod!

una composizione molto elegante di simmetrie e colori.
Il cromatismo è basato su 2 sole tonalita: grigio e celeste.
La luce è ben studiata e il POV perfetto, anche se il WS secondo il mio gusto era da preferire.
Forse in fase di post produzione del WS avresti dovuto lavorare sul contrasto, cercando di recuperare le parti sovraesposte.

Tutto questo per commentare le tue note e instaurare un dibattito costruttivo, ma in ogni caso una interpretazione superlativa.

Ciao Lisa,

Symmetry, yes, but not quite! And that's what makes this photograph so intriguing. The top of the picture is perfectly symmetrical but the bottom is not and that makes us look more and more at this photograph and breathe in every little nuance within it. Very cleverly and subtly composed indeed.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you regarding your workshop picture: the light in that might not be so wonderful as in this picture but I don't think that the composition in it is quite so good as in this one either - to my mind, your workshop picture is just a tad too "cluttered" with too many things going on. This one is by far the better of the pair in my opinion.

The lighting here is lovely and the small amount of pale blue light coming through the high windows adds just that little bit of needed colour - just enough. The details and sharpness are exquisite and the exposure perfect in such difficult conditions.

This is unbelievably beautiful.
The white and blue combine to make it seem absolutely pure.
I love how you have positioned your camera to make the central square follow the lines of the roof square; a really clever piece of composition.

questo spettacolo non telo avevo commentato...mi era sfuggito, la moschea blu quì è diventata quasi completamente bianca ;) ma la grafica e la prospettiva sono veramente attraenti, molto belle anche le geometrie ovviamente insieme al tuo bellissimo lavoro, uno scatto immacolato...
sono appena rientrato da Sorrento e Salerno, ho fatto tutta la costiera Amalfitana senza la mia camera, per fortuna il nostro amico Rino, mi ha fatto fare qualche scatto con la sua, mi sarei mangiato le mani...in compenso avevo una piccola G12...ma è come scendere da una ferrari e montare su una 500 ehehehe...

So well spotted and taken at this pov, for sure you were taken by the pleasing interior architecture with good mixed of modern design and strong graphical feel. Composition is spot on, good symmetry but I love the softness of colors and lighting in limited colors but the touch of blueish tinge is lovely. I would say that you had succeeded in your intention, and produced a captivating shot with wonderful result. Congrats. Have a good weekend

I am amazed to see such a beautiful modern architecture of this Mosque. The glass rests beautifully on series of arcades supported by white marble columns. Nice geometrical shapes with perfect symmetry. Nice bluish tint on the glass coming from the blue dome. Lovely big blue stained glass window . The colors and sharpness are superb.

beautiful architecture and a very original presentation. You have well selected the details to create a nice symmetrical alignment. The blue dome is well visible behind the roof. Even the Arabic inscriptions are recognizable. Great combination of new architecture with some traditional elements.

preferisco la composizione e la luce di questa foto. La simmetria e piu' controllata ed effettiva nel quadro piu' stretto e la forza delle prospettive e' piu' impressionante. Mi piace tanto la vista che continua oltre le capitali con le piramidi di vetro e la cuppola suggestiva al esteriore.
