Photographer's Note
The journey to Sossusvlei itself requires a drive of about 60kms from the entrance gate. Driving down a corridor of gravels flanked by mobile and 'petrified' dunes and 1600-2000 million year old granitic mountains is as breathtaking as the destination. In this shot the early morning light reveals the brilliant orange of the dune behind which wind blown sand lies up against an ancient igneous mountain. At the foot of the dune are a few acacia trees and the gravels are partially covered by seasonal grasses. Stopping to walk across these plains looking carefully at the ground you should be able to find 'dreikanters' - wind abraded angular stones with a pyramidal shape

Of course this is a beautiful landscape but the trees, in front of the left mountain are the fine details which makes the photo !

Hello Rosemary,
I must take up on your description 'breathtaking' for that is truly the impression I had, as I looked at your shot. The colours are so strong, the shapes are unimaginably geometric and your use of light sculptures them wonderfully A fine shot so unbelievable different from 'England's green and pleasant land'!
Have a lovely day,
Bev :-)

Hello Rosemary, i am impresseb by this picture, in particularity by the orange color of the pyramidal formation, the shape seems artificial and painted!
Also in the mountain in background, the orange is the dominant color.
All this and the raking sunlight, the clear sky and clouds, make an incredible and fantastic scenario!
Excellent technically execution and pov, togheter an interesting explanation.
Warm regards
Corrado

Hello Rosemary,
Just stunning!
The pale blue sky is a perfect backdrop for the saturated oranges of the hills, whilst the shadows add their own charm.
The format is perfect, accentuating the lovely triangles.
A most spectacular scene that has been photographed perfectly.
My best regards Les.

Hello Rosemary ,
This is an amazing landscape . What is striking , here , is the contrast between the two hills , the sandy one , and the rocky one . The shades are really effective .

Hi Rosemary,
From this angle ist seems that the dune makes a perfect pyramid. It really makes think abou the power of wind and wonder if those trees will be covered by moving sand some day. Solid rock mountain makes interesting contrast. Wonderful afrenoon sidelight.

Bonjour Rosemary
C'est incroyable cette forme orange qui ressemble à la base d'une pyramide. Le paysage est extraordinaire et je comprends bien pourquoi il fallait l'immortaliser sous cette lumière magnifique.

Hi Rosemary
Waou..another great shot of Namibia. The light and colors are so gorgeous and I like a lot your framing. The dune like a pyramid, the game between light and shadows, the trees standing out the dune and the moutain with sharp reliefs. A dreamy landscape.

Wow! Awesome capture of this orange sand dunes! I just got back from Coral Pink Sand Dunes 20 miles west of Kanab, Utah, but the sand was more orange than pink. Love the lighting of this post. Good pov and sharp details. Very well done, tfs.

Hello Rosemary,
Again a fascinating note which adheres well with the ethos of TE and a wonderful photograph by way of illustration.
You have made the very most of the strong and harsh sunlight which "models" the mountain and the huge dune perfectly. The composition is beautiful by its simplicity and also by the fact that it complies well with the "thirds rule". The colours are vibrant but believable and the detail and sharpness are stunning.
Beautiful!
Kind Regards,
John.

Magistrale composition aux couleurs saturées. Le paysage est sublime et tu as su le rendre encore plus beau par ce splendide cadrage et cette excellente exploitation de cette belle lumière latérale.

Hello Rosemary,
This goes straight to my favourites. As you know I love this area and have taken many photos there so I know that it is hard to get such a perfect picture as this. This is one that I would like to have taken. The light and colours seems to change so rapidly after the sun first appears.
The strong shadows and colour in this image emphasise the grandeur of the landscape. I like the way that the smooth dune contrasts with the more rocky hill behind. I also like the trees standing against the red of the dune.
Very, very beautiful. Your picture is tempting me back to Namibia!
Best wishes, Ann

Hello Rosemary.
a wider perspective where I immediately recon the tree bellow at left so many times used against the deep towns of the first hill...
It's nice to see this wider view to have a sense of scale of the place and how rough it must be just to get there.
The contrasts of colours are amazing, as the light which seems to be always something special overthere.
Cheers.

Bonjour Rosemary,
cette pyramide orange à l'avant plan, c'est vraiment l'insolence de la couleur, la nature sait y faire dans ce domaine.
Une photo nette avec une parfaite profondeur de champ, une capture précise des lumières ambiantes.

A gorgeous landscape with a good play of lights/shades giving relief to the dune and mountain. Indeed, the orange tone of the dune is an eye catcher.

Rosemary
Come me esalti la terra dove dimori.
Ma la tua è una grande nazione ed un luogo tra i più belli del "creato" .
Il colore e tutto " è grande" e diverso....
Bello il mare , bellissime le montagne e le terre rosse. La diagonale crea una "falsa piramide egizia"
