Basilica of Superga, a photo from Turin, Piedmont

Photographer's Note

Superga is a hill situated on the south bank of the Po River to the east of Turin in north-west Italy. At 672 metres above sea level, it is one of the most prominent of the hills which form an amphitheatre around the city.

The Basilica was built from 1717 to 1731 for Victor Amadeus II of Savoy by Filippo Juvarra, at the top of the hill of Superga, to fulfill a vow the duke (and future King of Sardinia) had made during the Battle of Turin. The architect made allusions to different earlier styles while adding a baroque touch.

Superga is known as the site of many of the tombs of the kings of the House of Savoy, for the Basilica of Superga, for the Superga Rack Railway which connects it to the Turin suburb of Sassi, and for the Superga air disaster of 1949 in which almost the entire Torino A.C. football squad (the "Grande Torino") perished.

Bellissima Superga. Ne hai reso perfettamente i colori, ottima nitidezza. Mi convince un po' meno il taglio sulla sinistra.

Une très bonne perspective sur cette magnifique basilique , avec l'escalier au premier plan . J'aime les couleurs bien saturées et le contraste orange-bleu . L'image est peut être un peu claire , mais c'est un choix .

I see elaborate architecture wich color matches well those of greenery and blue backdrop, depicted with low contrast for a better allover view of those finely-chiseled details.

Really excellent positioning of the camera here to make the best vertical composition, very well done...very sharp and clear. Is this a HDR image? looks that way, great details and light. Thanks for sharing.

finalmente superga, tra le foto di torino la più assente, è un po' che non ci vado più, questa primavera ci ha dato dei cieli splendidamente luminosi e vedo che non hai perso tempo per fotografarli
