Photographer's Note

I am indebted to Marilyn (axiotes) for discovering this strange temple, Wat Rong Khun in Chiang Rai. It is being created by a national artist, Cherlumchai as an act of personal devotion. The temple is entirely white and, I learn from Marilyn, was intended to be viewed by moonlight, and was intended to portray heaven on earth; 'Sawan, 'a Buddhist heaven , of course, that is, a supra mundane and not supernatural heaven. Not the residence of a supreme being but the highest natural, spiritual state. If anyone lives in London you can see some of Cherlumchai’s famous murals in the Buddhappadipa temple, in Callonne Road, Wimbledon. This temple in Chiang Rai attracts hundreds of visitors every day.
