Photographer's Note
The best way to view the pictures is to use the 3 links below.
Art Institute of Chicago
Without a visit to the Art Institute of Chicago, a visit to Chicago is not complete.
Of course to admire the extensive collection, but also, as you are used of me, to observe and photograph the interaction between the visitors and the art.
Three pictures with 3 different men studying paintings.
Two looking at the surrealism of Salvador Dali and one looking at the Cubism of Pablo Picasso.
The Art Institute of Chicago founded in 1879 as the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States.
The oldest building, guarded by two bronze lions, dates from 1893. The most recent expansion, the Modern Wing was designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano and was opened in 2009.
(note: Renzo Piano has designed a new bridge for Genoa as a replacement for the on the August 14th collapsed bridge.)

Hello Rob,
In a quite simple way you show the difference between "stealing" the works of Dali and Picasso and creating your own compositions. The three photos all come alive from the interaction between spectators and paintings. From your level these are fairly conventional photos, but they do all that needs to be done.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Rob
Interesting picture - and pose! - I think he is an art buff probably measuring the proportions in his mind. he's being studious and studying the technique of an old master! Visually you can't see his face hence isn't an intrusive photo. He could be anybody...
Great timing, excellent snap, Congrats
Best regards

Hi Rob,
You have captured well the concentration of the man looking at the painting. The point of view is showing the details of the artwork. The light is bringing out the colours. Have a nice day.

Hello Rob, all three shots are excellent, I think that you selected the right one for your main post.
An excellent composition, I find myself looking from the man to the painting, then back again! I wonder what the expression on the man's face was? Wearing a black shirt he doesn't distract from the artwork.
Thanks for sharing, regards Jean.

Hello Rob,
I recognised the Salvador Dali style right away. Nice use of desaturation to keep attention on the color painting. Excellent sharpness and diffused light. Tfs!

Goedenavond Rob,
Goed foto werk, bedankt.
Prettig weekend,
John

Hello Rob,
I'm sure you know that we really appreciate your photographs of art when it is shared with the interaction of the visitors. We get a double whammy!
Sometimes, the visitors are very relaxed, standing back, assessing the whole painting, other times they appear to be focussing on one area, as if trying to determine how the artist achieves the effect. Of course, a quick photograph with the camera allows them to do whatever they wish, in the comfort of their own home!
As always, you have given us three excellent views of the paintings and their viewers!
My warm regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Rob,
Another fine trio of photographs showing interaction between observer and art. And three quite different pieces of art and three different observers, and the Dalis are being scrutinised while the Picasso is also being photographed.
Three lovely and very interesting photographs, each of excellent quality despite what must have been quite challenging lighting conditions.
Thank you for sharing these and also for your fascinating and informative note.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.
P.S. I've often wondered - do you try to remain unnoticed when taking these pictures or do you ask permission of the public before taking them? I always feel a bit nervous and self-conscious when trying to shoot images in places like this - unfortunately people in Britain seem to be becoming more and more paranoid - to the extent that if you're seen taking photographs in a public place, many will immediately suspect that you are either a terrorist or some sort of creepy or perverted predator. It really is a shame that people now seem so mistrusting.

Hallo Rob,

Hi Rob.
I also like to take pictures of paintings in museums, you add the human factor and it is a good result.
The three paintings by famous artists and visitors in different positions, but always with interest.
A fantastic photos, with beautiful natural colors, very good lighting and excellent sharpness.
Well done. I love.
Enjoy the weekend.
Very best regards.
Luis.

Hello Rob,
Like Gert, I find it much more interesting when we see not only the painting but also the interaction with the visitor. Otherwise, where is the creativity of the photographer? With the sculpture it is a bit different, you have the choice of point of view. Another set of the three fine compositions from Art Gallery.
Happy, healthy, prosperous New Year 2019
