Photographer's Note

All the humans in this photo seem oblivious to the fact that a place to get food is right behind them. It’s for humans only – no aliens allowed. :-)

This is a corner in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea. The area covers 14th Street to 30th Street (south to north), and Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River (east to west). In Chelsea you’ll find older-style tenement buildings and row houses, mixed with businesses and shops. It’s also a center for art, with more than 200 galleries.

Some famous sights in Chelsea include: Chelsea Market, Chelsea Piers (a large sports complex), Highline Park, and the Chelsea Hotel, which has beautiful cast-iron work on the facade. In the past, when traveling by sea was the main mode of transport, ocean liners would dock along the Chelsea piers. The Titanic was actually heading for one of the Chelsea docks on its doomed journey, and the Carpathia, which picked up the survivors, actually did dock there.
