Photographer's Note

In 1945, New York City Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia renamed Sixth Avenue the "Avenue of the Americas". People might not notice the small, round signs along the avenue naming countries in the Americas, but they will definitely notice a new exhibit called “Fantasy Landscapes” that shows views from Central and South America.

The exhibit, which runs through October 2019, is composed of four individual installations, each one representing different natural wonders that have been the backdrop of various films and television shows.

This first view, in front of skyscraper 1221 Sixth Avenue, is the Atacama Desert in Chile. The bright colors really jump out, but for some reason I was the only person taking photos at the time. I waited for just one or two people to be in the frame, and it took a bit of time. The area is very busy, and lots of people were constantly standing or walking right in front me.
