Produce Market
 |
|
| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
Whether or not it's because this produce market in Quitman was closed on a Sunday or if it has closed down completely, it still remains somwhat of an "Old Curiosity Shop" for me.
I always used to glance at it as I passed it from the country road to Valdosta on my way back from work in Tallahassee 75 miles away. Sometimes I would stop in there for boiled peanuts or sweet potatoes.
The sign is covered with weeds now. It said "produce" once in red writing, and it had a picture of the horn of plenty at the center. I left the sign red here with selective desaturation for old times sake.
Perhaps I should go past it on a week day, it might still be open.
Thanks for looking, TW |

Hi Tim,
Wonderful photo you posted in B&W, I like how you left the sign red very well done, Perfect sharpness and composition. The details are perfect in this photo. Great job Tim.
Cheers
Jason.
Hi Tim,
Something about your photographs is pretty striking to my eyes... It wasn't the first time when I clicked on your picture just while I was casually looking at the galery. This is one of few of yours that were "calling me" :)
Well, I I'm adding you to my favorites for that alone.
As for your subject of the picture, quite photogenic. I love the idea of leaving the lettering in rusty red color. Considering perspective, I wish you got just a wee bit closer, cutting off the car on the right... I just would like to see some more details of this store's death, and the car sort of distracts me.
All best to you.

Your PP really makes this one capture the atmosphere of the place superbly, Tim. Everything speaks of decay--the vines growing over the building, the cement cracked and littered with leaves. Your tones are dark and harsh, emphasizing the sadness of the place. Everything looks very even and smooth, not like you had to force detail out of, say, the sky by boosting contrast a lot (and thereby adding noise.) Really nice work! Regards, Ken.
