Photographer’s Note

Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring and definitive images of the American West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years for movies, adverts and holiday brochures. Because of this, the area may seem quite familiar, even on a first visit, but it is soon evident that the natural colors really are as bright and deep as those in all the pictures. The valley is not a valley in the conventional sense, but rather a wide flat, sometimes desolate landscape, interrupted by the crumbling formations rising hundreds of feet into the air, the last remnants of the sandstone layers that once covered the entire region.

Classic shot of the one of the most photograped sites in the world. Something like "I was also there". You come to such a place, make photos but what about posting them? There are already other shots, some better ones. I am reluctant in such a situation, try to avoid it. On the other hand, I like it.

Yes, this is a classic, and it deserves a place on TE whether or not someone else has deleted his versions. The marvellous scenery is there for anyone with a camera, but the good handling of the light and the fine saturation is your own contribution.

It could not have been better ...a wonderful postcard and one of the most famous spots in the world even for those who have never travelled abroad and just spent theie weekend evenings watching western movies around a circular table in family ...

Malgorzata,
This is a well composed shot using the rock formations in the foreground to frame the one in the back. The lighting and colors are great with the deep blue sky providing contrast for the red of the earth. My only suggestion would be to crop out the small bit of shadow in the immediate foreground.

Yes, it is a classical picture, but it is well done, so it was a good idea to post it here.
The colors are great and the composition too : it makes like a window on the rocks in the background.

You are right, there are already about 110 pictures on TE from this place... But this is a very good one! The red-brown rocks and the deep blue sky are very attractive together. Could you take a walk along here or was it more like stopping the car and get out to take a picture?

Hello Malgorzata,

The view to the two distant towers is well framed by the foreground structures!
Nature provides the best colour palette in this place, as the brownish cliffs contrast well with the apparently always blue sky...
The palette is well reproduced, the composition is balanced with good details!

I agree with your decision to post your version of a well-loved view. I understand your motivation completely, with the very human 'I was there' mentality. Your version stands up well with all the others, although I may have cropped the dark shadow at the bottom.
