Three Sisters and A Cloud Photo

Photographer’s Note

Some people wonder which time of day best to visit Monument Valley. Well, in my opinion you have to visit it morning and late afternoon as different monuments in the park are best seen at a particular moment. For example, the Three Sisters here are silhouettes late afternoon whereas here in the morning you can see them nicely.

Certaines personnes se demandent à quel moment de la journée visiter Monument Valley. A mon avis il faut y aller en fin d'après-midi et en matinée car certains monuments se voient mieux à certains moments de la journée. Par exemple, les Three Sisters (trois soeurs) ici sont à contre-jour l'après-midi mais se voient bien en matinée.

La netteté est exceptionnelle!. Cette couleur des pierres, de la terre est superbe, mais j'ai l'impression que du coup le ciel a aussi pris une légère coloration rouge!.
Joli nuage pour équilibrer : presque un nuage à la x file!

Jolie composition ici avec ces 3 soeurs bien visibles meme si bien decentrées et l apport du nuages pour rehausser le rouge de la roche.

The typical and fantastic Utah-Arizona landscape.
Simple and well composed. I think the magenta dominance is also inthe sky (the cloud is not white).
Maybe you can slightly adjust the colors.

en effet on y etait en fn d'apres-midi (pour le coucher du soleil) et elles etaient bien dans l'ombre les 3 soeurs!!!

Salut Nikki,
tous les lieux sont plus beaux quand les rayons du soleil sont obliques et apportent des teintes dorées. Ici aussi certainement !
Tu as peut-être aussi un peu renforcé les jaunes (je trouve qu'il y a du jaune dans le blanc du nuage, mais ce n'est pas une critique, au contraire!)
Ce que j'aime le plus, c'est la structure du relief faite de strates horizontales qui créent un très bel effet, et l'opposition des lignes horizontales et verticales sur laquelle repose ta composition.

Bonjour, Nikki. Les tons orangés sont magnifiques dans cette image. Les Three Sisters sont bien décentrées et la présence du nuage équilibre bien la composition. Belle lumière de fin d'après-midi.

Hello Nikki,
The two big sistem must have taken all the food, The little sister is so skinny and small.

Nice details, good compositon and the clouds is very nice addition to the composition. I think you may have push a little bit too far with the saturation on the red. I know it is a matter of taste, many like it this way. Because of the strong red, the blue sky seem a bit muted and flat and the clouds lack contrast.

Hi Nikki, you know very well how to take advantage of good photo oportunities when they are presented in front of your eyes. Even in nature you are a master of simplicity and graphism. That cloud is simply fantastic as the 3 sisters look at it. It seems that the little sister in the middle is not so sure about the clouds intentions... ;-)

Elles sont superbes les images ramenées des Etats-Unis. La polarisation accentue à merveille les couleurs du site. La composition est "aux petits oignons", agrémentée par ce joli nuage écrasé.

Nicely red and blue with a touch of white.
The various layers in the rocks are well visible and the three sisters stand out very well against the sky.
I understand you wanted to include the entire cloud in the compo. However I would have liked it better if there could have been a bit more space on the right side of the three sisters.

Hi Nikki,

I like the composition with the cloud in the middle, and the rock shapes outlined by shadows. As you say, you have to be there at the right time of day, although if you went there in the afternoon you could walk around the other side of the Sisters to take a photo of the sunlit side. But by the time you got there, it would probably be night anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose.

j'emets juste une reserve quant a la teinte jaunatre que l'on retrouve sur beaucoup de tes images, notamment sur les vignetttes..
est ce du a une retouche globalement jaune? ou alors une tendance au jaunisme de ta marque fetiche? ou autre??`
je ne me l'explique pas, mais c assez marqaunt je toruve
