Photographer’s Note

Day 3, 7:30 A.M.
On our way back up to the North Rim along the Bright Angel Trail, in order to avoid the heat, we tried to leave as early as possible. Half the people already left by sunrise. It was one of the very difficult hikes I have done in a long time carrying with me an approximately 20 pounds backpack, maybe it was not but it felt like it. For the next few days, I was walking like a cowboy who’s been riding a horse all day.

This is the view of the Colorado River. There was a thunder storm the night before somewhere up stream, the rain flushed down with it much soil content, the river was completely brown like chocolate milk versus the crystal clear turquoise green that we saw just the day before.
