Photographer’s Note
Day 4, mid morning.
On my way out of the Grand Canyon, a quick stop at Grand Canyon Desert View Watchtower to look at the view from here. There is a souvenir shop in the watch tower. I have no extra money or room in the car for any souvenir. So I thought I took a few picture of them, so this is my souvenir of Grand Canyon. I thought it looks kind of cool with all the Indian Pottery displaying in front of the window with the gigantic view of the canyon. I like this one without flash. Those of you with good vision will spot a fly on the window. I can easily photoshop it out, but decided to leave it for its authenticity and originality of the window.
Next stop, Page - Glen Canyon/Lake Powell area.
Wee WS for the window display taken with flash

Hi Way
Well frankly I'm not too fond of this commercial foreground spoiling the nature beauty, but looking beyond I see beautiful warm highlights and can easily forget about them
have a nice day JY

Hi Way, Splendid view of the Grand Canyon with addition of Indian Pottery. We visited Hopi Center and I bought some Indian serviettes for the table. I was quite astonished to see some months later that they were Indian but not what I thought, they were made in India! So I see that you made your trail from the South Rim. And on the North Rim is the Bright Angel Point. The path there seemed to me narrow and I was afraid of going there.

hello Way,
the pottery in the foreground looks so alien, like something made of black shining lava, almost menacing, especially against the sunny background and postcard-like scenery. I quite like the result, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what is that black spot in the sky. sensor dust? bird? heli? and why on earth did you leave it there? :)
best,
Kristine

Hi Way,
great shot of this classical place. It was a fine intuition to leave the fly, the pottery gives a good FG. Great job, TFS

Hello Way,
Nice shot, good idea with the pottery as foreground with soft light falling down from outside the window, looks mysterious. Beautiful view on the gigantic landscape too and the contrast between the foreground and the background looks good. Cool with the fly for the originality of the window, difficult to see there is a glass thought. Well done. TFS.
My best regards,

Hello Way,
An original view of the canyon indeed, with the eye going back and forth between the landscape and the pottery.

Hi Way,
So the pottery is inside in front of window, that's why fg is so dark. Yes, it look kind of cool, those circular reflections in almost darkness. Landscape looks great of course. Luckily they keep window clean.

Hello Way,
The souvenirs in foreground are a little bit dark but give a nice glimmer.
Very well composition, very lovely place and paonrama view.

Hi way,
A funny anecdote from fly,I was asking my self too what kind of flying object could be that..:)
Obviously I like this lanscape, furthermore from this perspective, your shots are always to see,to make baggage, and to go to..In this case I think I prefer the WS version, may be for the clear souvenirs and the frame closing the picture. Thanks for sharing and best whishes.

Hello Way,
A slightly troubling pair of photos. They both have their pros and cons and I can't decide which one I prefer. In this one the pottery is so dark, and I can't make them out properly, so they almost disturb the view. And before reading your note I got annoyed at the halo around what I thought was a distant bird.
In the ws we can see the pottery and more of the interior properly, but then the magnificent landscape gets a bit reduced.
A difficult choice, but no doubt the scenery is terrific.
Kindest regards,
Gert

This is definitely my favourite of the two. The colours of the canyon are richer for one thing. The pottery in the foreground is intriguing and it has made youe image original. I must say I would have cloned out the fly, as I keep looking at it more than the pottery.

Hello Way,
I think I have not a good vision ! ;-)
I find original your idea to show all these objects with such an imposing decoration in background. That surprises a little, the effect really is successful. The photo of the workshop make us understand. It's interesting.
I have a preference for Grand Canyon without this commercial aspect but I like very much your idea.
And your photo quality also !
Thanks For sharing the two photos Way.
Have a good day.
All the best,
Magali

Hi Way, this is a very unique composition, the idea of incorporating the souveneirs into your photo sure saves money and lugging them around everywhere :) And I like them in shadow with just a few highlights. The WS is also inventive and worthy of a separate posting in my humble opinion. How you manage to get such a superb DOF every time is just amazing. May I ask what f/stop and shutter speed you were using here? Thanks for sharing and I wish you a happy and relaxing weekend, Lisa.

Hi Way
Grand canyon is always beautiful, but the foreground here is too distractive and does not add anything to the scene. If you want to keep it, I much prefer the WS version as we understand the context of the picture.

Hi Way,
nice capture of this shot. Great to see the Grand Canyon through the glass. Nice light and colour balance. Very well done.
Have a nice Sunday.
PS- yes I can see the bee in the glass. Your workshop picture is also very good.

Hi Way,
you should have written the part about the fly at the top of your note - then I wouldn't have been scratching at my screen so long!! ;-)) I would have cloned it out, for sure.
But I like the shot and the light on the canyon and the shadow on the souvenirs. Great shot.
Have a good week and take good care!

Sabaidie Way
The semi silhouetted pottery (which we see in the flash picture in the WS) definitely makes this an original...like the blue tone which surrounds their rim and part of their surface...but of course what's more intriguing is the view beyond, of the fascinating colours, layers and the green Colorado flowing through the canyon. I might have preferred cloning out the fly there on the glass, but appreciate your view as well
Best Regards

Hello Way -
Excellent capture! The canyon is so hard to capture well and you have managed to do it with an excellent compositional skills. I would never have thought to capture the scene from inside of the tower gift shop with the tourist curios in the FG. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Way,
Once again a unique and creative POV using the pottery to frame the canyon. Amazing to capture such wonderful color and detail through a window. Unfortunately my old eyes can find the fly.

Hello Way.
At first sight I thought the fly was maybe a helicopter flying towards you! Great souvenir, one with possibly more meaning than a trinket or vase. Wonderful view too, well captured and presented (fly and all ;-). Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Way,
I agree to Paul, together with the photo in WS this is a very appropriate memory of the Grand Canyon, much more interesting and worthwhile than the pottery. I like your idea of this impression a lot, including this interesting fly, and I am asking myself if the pottery is all what is left from the Indian culture? It is a fantastic photo in every sense! TFS!
Warm regards

Hello Way,
A different foreground for this view of the canyons!
The apparent black pottery makes an unexpected contrast to the the rugged landscape, and creates a strong sense of depth...
And the landscape is as impressive as always.:!
