Union Square, SF

Just over a year ago, I posted a photo of Union Square, New York City . This year, we visited another Union Square, this time in San Francisco.

Union Square is a public plaza in downtown San Francisco. The square got its name during the American Civil War, when it was used for pro-Union rallies. At the centre of the square stands the Dewey Monument, erected to honour Admiral George Dewey for his victory in the Battle of Manila Bay (1898) in the Spanish-American War. A statue of Nike, the ancient Greek Goddess of Victory stands on top of the 26-metre tall column.
