| There are two kinds of lava in Hawaii, the a'a lava and the pa hoi hoi. (pardon me if the spelling is incorrect) The formations of dry lava are just amazing and this picture was taken at the lava fields down the Kilauea volcano, an active volcano in the big island of Hawai'i. The day I hiked the lava fields, I could not get to the live molten lava because the toxic fumes were blowing in land and made it dangerous to approach. However, the beauty of the formations around me (and underneath me!) made the trip unique and special anyway! |
