Steel Bridge

My previous photo showed two bridges in Portland, which is nicknamed Bridgetown, and my last two photos were both taken while I was standing on Steel Bridge, so I guess it’s time to show that bridge as well now.

Steel Bridge is a through truss, double-deck vertical-lift bridge. It spans the Willamette River in central Portland and was built in 1912, making it the second-oldest vertical-lift bridge in the world, the oldest being nearby Hawthorne Bridge. The upper deck has got two lanes for general traffic and two inner lanes for the MAX light rail. The lower deck is used by Union Pacific Railroad.

The glass tower on the other side of the river is part of the Oregon Convention Center, which opened in 1990.
