Photographer’s Note
Funny, lavendar is not the first color that would spring to my mind for a house, especially one of this size. However, someone less inhibited than I decided to take the plunge...and with evident zeal.
It is not unusual to see Victorian houses in the area restored to their original colors, which were often creative, sometimes garish. The owner of this one happened to come outside after I'd taken this photo, and I asked her if that was the case here. She confessed she had no idea how it was painted in former times, only that it was white when she bought it. She explained that she chose these colors simply because they appealed to her, and she was obviously pleased with the final result--now all the more eye-catching for its seasonal accent with orange pumpkins.
I sharpened, cropped some of the grassy hill off the bottom and (because of the brightness of the sun) added back saturation to +8.

This house belongs to a cartoon.
In Belgium neighbours can forbid the use of too original paintings on houses. A friend of mine had to repaint his whole house after some neighbour complained about his taste for dark blue.
Here the colours are bright making a very strange picture.

Great house. The photo has an overwhelming presensce of colors that at first was a bit too much but after looking at it for a while I really like it because it tells me of a house which seems so happy. My only suggestion would be cropping on the bottom I think the little cement barrier is unnecessary.

Amazing! Glad you brought it to our attention, and technically a good image! I have seen similar taste at the Forks of Cheat Winery in WV - this goes way beyond that, however!!

Beign from NJ myself, I appreciate the oddity that is this house. I know of a few in the area that are of similar "quality."
Excellent photo.

Lisa this is an excellent and unique posting. I like this house and the quality with which you captured it. Very well done. The foreground is not very good but when get someone the chance to take a photo of such a house. So I gladly take this drawback. I like it very much.

Ouh-la-la, Frenchtown revisited! We don't have houses like this in France, and if, they are usually painted with "sang-de-boeuf" colors (dark red) or brown shutters..
The owner has a good sense of colors.

It is unbelievable! Someone really paint a house that color? What a statement they like to make. I like your comment. Very colorful and very detailed photo. Good work.

LOL...I have driven past this house and all I could think at the time was, "what was the owner thinking!" I shudder to think at what the inside must look like.
You captured its quirky essence perfectly. I think that cropping the concrete may throw the composition off balance.

(Almost) unbelievable... if there wasn't a house of the same colour near to where I live, I would be looking for evidence of Photoshop!! But for some folks, this is their self-expression.
Sounds like the owner is as colourful as her house... your photograph and note give us some insight in this direction - well caught!

Well I think the reason why we might call it untasteful is that is our persepctive. In those Victorian days the more color the better. And this purple is like wow to the neighbourhood. Victorian homes were clustered together and that street in whole was quite an array of color and dazzle. They were dazzling times except for the old brass taps that squeaked when you turn for water in the basin. Oh I remember those great old days. But the ladies were fat and far too stuck up with their hair and dress. Seems I am still living in the same era today.

Nice image. I may have to match you on this one. I've been wanting an excuse to go shoot that ghastly house downtown. :-)
I like the way the flowers match the house

Bonjour Lisa
Gorgeous take!
She is a lady of undubious sense of decoration.
Pleasing hues well matching autumn environments.
Quite eye catching.

this is hysterical. nice shot of this very loud house.
I think that you might be able to crop and bring the house in a little tighter, here it is kind of hidden a bit...even though it is very loud

Hi Lisa,
The light is perfect which illuminates that amazing colorful house! That Victorian house got character with its architecture, surrounded with nice flowers and trees...
Have a nice day,
Marilyn
