Moonrise, a photo from California, Ouest

Photographer's Note

This is a continuation of my series on Lake Elizabeth in Fremont, CA.

The landscape may look like a night photograph, but it was shot in the afternoon and converted to b+w to bring out the shapes. The moon was indeed in the frame - not added in PS. Speaking of which, it's incredibly easy to spot when the moon has been surreptitiously added: usually it's entirely out of scale, or, the lighting is incorrect.

I thought the large-format style aspect ratio would be particularly appropriate for this composition. Also, take a look at the original color version.

PS: the sky may not be perfect - there might be some banding artifacts...

Quite a superb W&B and really a charming landscape. You really found and captured a wonderful light and atmosphere. Very good framing with the moon being the icing on the cake.

Hi Biswaroop, interesting your choice of B&W here. I would love to see the colour version, perhaps in a WS. It is not often we see a moonrise here on TE...there are plenty of sunrises and sunsets, so this is an excellent contribution. I also like the composition, it is very strong and well lit. The photo info does not show the ISO you used, but personally I would always use as low an ISO as possible and and an aperture of at least f/11. TFS and I look forward to seeing more of your photos. You have some great shots on your page!

I like the BW pictures, they are very detailed, like this one for example, only comment would be that you maybe stretched the sky too much to incluse the moon:)
