Mesa Arch Sunrise, a photo from Utah, Ouest

Photographer's Note

I want to try a sunrise shot at Mesa Arch in Canyonland. We got up early, it was cold, dark, we drove for an hour from our campsite outside of the park, hike in the dark with flash light, when we arrived there was already a group of people from one of the tour buses, it was one of those photography tour. There was no space left for me. I saw one woman without a camera, standing next to her friend just talking, so I kindly asked if she could move over just a little so I can set up my tripod. She shot a mean look at me and said, “Well, I want to take a picture too!” I said, “Okay, when you are done.” I waited around and someone was kind enough to let me a little space to squeeze in. I manage to get a few decent shots this is one of them.

Hi Way,
The light is very well managed here so that we can see all that lovely detail on the rocks in the foreground in the shaded area, whilst still having good exposure in the sky. really a beautiful moment with splendid subtle colouring. The little spots of clouds for me add that little bit extra to make the shot.

One of the famous place that every landscape photographers would like to visit one day to get his own shot.
Nice work here with just few sun rays taken in sandwich between horizon line and the arch. Good set up for the exposure.

canyonlands: one of the parks I loved the most. don't know why...but the feelings of greatness, endlessness and wildness were probably the reasons why.
I love the way you captured the sunrise light here leaving the violet nuances of the fading night on the backrocks

breath taking view. I am so jealous. I have been there but I was aiming for the sunset, but I did not manage to get there in time... I saw it but my photos are rather bad.
This one is spectacular with the sun being exactly where it is supposed to be.
It really makes me wanna go back there again...

What a place, a giant rock arch spanning a shear cliff drop and meters to the valley floor. This is simply amazing, experiencing a sunrise here is a magical surely but trying to photograph it is challenging as you have mentioned, you have to contend with a lot of other photographers all wanting prime position. What wonderful moment, you've certainly have captured the glow beautifully particularly I love light up belly on the arch that looks like burning lava. Fantastic view and terrific capture. what an impressive picture! But for me the note is even more intresting, I never could imagine the place to be crowded by photographers. That would have spoiled my day, if I had been in your place. But your result is beautiful, and I hope the mean-looking woman didn´t catch it! At least you had a little bit warmth squeezed between the others.

I heard about this place, heard about the crowds & also seen a few fine pictures from this place. The right timing is all about, I heard, the sun casting a red glow on the under-surface of the arch. The exposure contrast is high & you've mastered it really well! Another fine work

A beautifully executed photo, from just the right spot. The red light on the bottom of the arch and the purple colours in the foreground are quite special. The sun is perfectly exposed. I'm glad you got a space to set up your tripod. Hard to imagine such a remote looking place would be so crowded.

Magic moment you show us here and with such a percet lightwork and choice of POV creating beautiful composition. I understand from your note that the peacful look that you present here is not the reality beacause you had to squeeze yourself betwen al the tourists. Probably also an interessant photo to see ;-))
