Essex Street Market

Still in the Lower East Side in Manhattan during our TE-meeting with Brenda, we here encounter some more modern architecture as well. The tower in the background is the Blue Condominium, which opened in 2007. A residential tower, designed by Bernard Tschumi, it is clear proof of the neighbourhood’s recent gentrification. The tower is part of the Essex Crossing mixed-use development, which will also include the older buildings in the foreground. They are a part of the Essex Street Market, which was built in the 1930s by Mayor La Guardia.
