Photographer's Note

founded in december 4, 1786 by fr. fermin lausen, presidente of the california mission chain, santa barbara mission was named "queen of the mission". it sits high on a hill overlooking the city of santa barbara and the pacific ocean. it has 2 belltowers that are each 87 feet tall. the appearance of the church's interior has not changed since 1820. the only california mission never to have been abandoned, been in continous use by the padres since the founding day.
the santa barbara mission has been well maintained and repaired thru all the years and continues to serve the city as a parish church.
