Photographer's Note

Young Barrel cactus armor taken in Mohave desert. Life is hard in the desert, but not at all less beautify therefore. One has to protect himself, but let us do it with elegancy! For those who have no experience with American South-West deserts - these spines are the best tooth pickers I know. It is hard to 'harvest' them, but once you have them, they last forever! A single one suffice for several days of hiking through wilderness.

Scanned on a Kodak Photo CD at 64k basis. Cropped, slight curves to adjust contrast, sharpened by Unsharp mask at 75%, 1 pix radius, two consecutive times. JPEG level 33 (Corel PhotoPaint notation).
