Photographer’s Note
Location: This waterfall is located in the forest near the small community of Silvergate, Montana. There are no signs, just a small (unmarked) trail that leads to it. I've visited this waterfall almost every year since I was one year old, and yet I'm not sure it has an official name. My family refers to it simply as "the waterfall."
About the Photo: Those two girls, whom I may or may not be related to, were an unplanned bonus to this photo. Just as I was setting up my camera to shoot the waterfall they walked/climbed up behind it. When I saw one of them point to something I quickly took a picture. After they moved I took several more, but I liked this one best.

Hello Ryan,
Yep! And added bonus to this photo, these two girls! But even more with one of them pointing to the sky. You were lucky that they did not move for the half second you took the picture. As it is always the case with your photos, your exposure is right on, perfectly controlled, and your colors are really beautiful.
Because of the "long" exposure (for water), I like the effect on the water, lika a light veil, very soft.
Did I say it was beautiful, really?

Striking image.
the lush greens and your wonderfully exposed water are just wonderful .. I agree the girls are great .. on top of everything else they create a wonderful measure of scale.

OK, Ryan, how'd you get the relatives, er, I mean local native girls you never met before in your life, to stand still in those poses for a half a second?
Nice rich color in the rock and pleasing silkiness in the waterfall. Well done as always. Regards, Ken.

Oh, familial ambiguity...
i agree about your thought behind that, though--the fact that you "may or may not be related to" the girls doesn't make this any less relevent of a picture. The 1/2 second exposure is great, perfect to keep detail in the fall while maintaining the great silky blur. The girls add scale and some human interest. You kept the colors very intense and saturated, and i like the way they are warm oranges at the top and fall into cooler blues and greens, giving the impression of an oasis in a dry world.
Thanks!

Hello Ryan,
Tu as réussi une nouvelle très belle image ! La chute d'eau centrée fonctionne bien dans cette composition. Les personnes qui y apparaîssent donne beaucoup de vie malgré la vigueur et le dynamise qu'apporte déjà la chute !
Bravo !

Hi Ryan,
With or without the girls, i can live with both pictures i think.
For me the girls are not the most important thing in this image, but the golden tones of light on the rocks are really what makes this image so good. Those rocks really shine and in conbination with those deep green bushes you created a very deep saturated Velvia look and feel here...perfect..!!!

What are you doing with two girls on these majestic scenery? No need to answer... :) I love their placement, the way you composed around them and the fact they are both looking up. So I am! And then I navigate down and dive right into the pool. The definition is amazing and so are the well recorded colors. I don't agree with Henk this time as I do think that the girls are crucial here. (Aren't they crucial everywhere?) They simply justify your compo choice and the way the stream of water flows right in the center. Perfect!

These two girls up there (to whom you may or you may not be related, Ryan (:-))), are that extra feature to transform the photo of the water falls into a most charming reason for elaborations and smart alecks comments about it.
"Human element' is an extra ordinary important issue since the beginning of photography, and those two elements, (to whom you may or you may not be related, Ryan (:-))), are that extra spice to make us smiling while looking at your photo.
All the best to you and your relatives, pal.

Great shot, I didn't notice the people on the thumbnail. I think it was a great decision to include them, and their posure is perfect. We often wait for the tourists to get out of the picture, but often the human scale is essential to get all the grandeur that nature offers. I also like that part of the fall hits the rocks instead of going straight down to the pool. And finally, the green nicely breaks up the brown-yellow rock face. An A+ from me.

Hi, Ryan. This is a really beautiful place. The mixture of rock and green and the delicate waterfall make up a very beautiful scenery. Here the colour contrast is very good. The two girls give us the scale and are an interesting element in the composition.

This is a fantastic waterfall shot! The falls themselves are well presented, with the lighting being particularly good. What really elevates this to another level is the people standing under the falls, giving this a great little story and making it much more interesting. Excellent!

Small image, but exquisite. Great bit of cropping here. Lovely capture of the water at the slow shutter speed used, and remarkable sharpness and clarity of the rest of the image. The human figures not only show the scale of things, but balance that dark space behind them. I think the shot would be far less interesting without them. Thanks, girls, for keeping still. The light and colour is well rendered. All in all, a really nice shot.

Hi Ryan!
Your gallery is amazing, definitely one of the best in TE. Your photos are unique, with perfect compositions and beautiful saturated colours. If I could use one word to describe them it would be "intense". This one could not be an excepcion. Great use of long time exposure and also great use and positioning of the girls to give us the sence of scale. Congratulations!
Best regards,

Hi Ryan.
What pleases me more in this photo is the contrast between the bright rocks and deep shadows. The girl give a reference point about size of the waterfall. Of course I love moving water.
The blue in the top of the waterfall is intriguing me...

Beautiful composition Ryan! The slow shutter, the presence of the girls, the exposure, colors and sharpness are all perfectly done. The texture of the rocks is also very real! Although I can only see a bit of it, the sky is quite dark. Was this taken late in the afternoon?

Hi Ryan
As usual, another high quality photo. The capture of the falls is spot on with the 1/2 shutter speed. The addition of the girls provide excellent scale. The colors are vibrant and well saturated.

Hi Ryan,
I can see why your family calls it "The Waterfall!!" You've captured its beauty well, the long shutter speed has turn the wather to silk. Light mangement is superb; your colors and detail are perfect. I was interested in how you did this with such a long shutter speed, I see you used a small aperture. The framing gives a feeling of intimacy giving a closed-in secret place feelings the possible relatives give an idea of the size of the fall but more than that the pointing conveys a sense of excitement. So lovely it goes to my favs

Hi Ryan.
A very nice capture. The long exposure gave the falls a great look and as a bonus it didn't blur the figures. The detail in the rocks are good, and the green streaks add a nice contrast.

Hi Ryan, your gallery is amazing and has such diversity I had a hard time choosing an image. This one is certainly a cracker. The speed on the water is just perfect and the inclusion of the people is a bonus. You timed your shot very well as the girl is pointing. Exposure is very well handled. Great job.

Beautiful composition and exposure. Th people in the image work well to provide scale. Their blue jeans pick up the blue at the top of the image.
Well done Ryan
