Hi All.

This is the corner of Edmonds St and Washburn St, Ketchikan. As you can see these “streets” are just boardwalks and stairways. There is very little flat land in the town of Ketchikan and the houses were built on the side of the hill, it is too steep for normal roads so these wooden roads put in for access. Anything that goes into or comes out of these homes has to come and go via these boardwalks and stairs. As you can imagine groceries etc become a chore and moving house requires some planning and lots of strong friends!
In the background is Ketchikan Marina.

In WS a shot from the bottom.

See travelogue for more.

Enjoy.
Cheers, Paul.

Beautiful town. The wooden architecture and the low buildings enhance the character of a small place. Peaceful and yet beautiful setting with impressive mountain views in the background. Very well done Paul.

Roberto

Hi Paul,
I know such narrow streets from old Europe as they were built long before wagons or coaches came in use. But not in wooden construction. Nice angle in the workshop. The view over the town is great, so many details and a great finish with the mountains. Wonderful clarity and colours.

Hi Paul,
Excellent deep scene of this harbour town. Lots of interesting details. Street signs work well as the main focal point. And the WS is a good extra showing the steepness more clearly.
Kari

Hello Paul,
Perfect spot to capture the corner Edmonds and washburn. The mountains on the distance looks beautiful, supporting by the port view and nice housing. Colours and sharpness are well, thanks for share it Paul.

best regards
daniel

Bonsoir, cher Paul,
Une vue très réussie de Ketchikan, l'effet de perspective est particulièrement réussi. La mise en image (mise en scène, choix du thème) est excellente.
Félicitations pour cette façon de présenter la ville.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Greetings Paul! Good catch on your part giving us a bird's eye view of walking down those stairs into the interesting town. The different styles of architecture are well seen in addition to those mountains in the distance. The image is laser sharp. well done!

Well, that's crazy...first thing I thought was, "how the hell is this a street?" Well, I guess I understand. Very interesting absolutely. This is something I haven't seen. Not only that, but the scene is stunning...I couldn';timagine living here. Beautiful shot.
Chris.

Hi Paul
Wow, great view from the stairs at the town and mountains in the background. Good perspective. The stairs in WS are also impressive :).
Regards

Olá Paul, this is a great POV with a wonderful view over the roofs, church(?) and view of the mountains in the far distance. Love this yellow house and green signs at left, for some detail, giving contrast and depth to the image. The WS is a wonderful graphic perspective that could have been a good main post. Excellent couple of shots.
Cheers,
ricardo

Hi Paul
Nice POV and framing over the city with its charming wooden houses and bell tower and the harbor facing the mountains with a good sense of depth. Light and colors are also very nice.
In the WS the staircase looks quite steep.

Hello Paul,
nice the perspective view of these boardwalks and stairways. The side of the town is superb with colourful roofs of the houses.Great the composition and the POV of your shot..It's a wonderful graphical place with a very informative note.Well done.
Regards,Danos

Hi Paul, I guess this shot doesn't need any GPS coordinates. The signs gives a pretty good idea of your location. The signs are a very good compositional element giving an introduction and lead into your image. Without it the image would be more or less flat.

Beautiful photo, the colours are great and I enjoy the panaoram view very much
Best wishes,
Achim

Hi Paul,
I like the way you've framed Ketchikan against the Tongass Narrows. Those steep wooden stairs are so Ketchikan!! The view in the WS is even better. HLJ, Pat

Hello Paul, it's a very beautiful composition which you shows us there, PoV is excellent and the image is superbly coloured, it's excellent, I like this beautiful light, bravo!

Hi Paul,

Nice capture, it looks so peaceful. Well done

Cheers,

Hi Paul - cute "streets", you were very lucky also to get a glimpse of the sun in one of the wettest, cloudies sopots on the planet, a long way from NZ eh?

Hello Paul,
Wonderfully captured! The composition is amazing with the roof tops of the buildings and then your eye is carried out to the mountains and then even further out to sea! Beautiful composition, well balanced, color and clarity perfect! I love your travelogue....I can't wait until my next adventure!

Take care,

Hi Paul,
What a busy junction :) These wooden stairways might be looking charming to us, but I agree they are less so for people that live there.
It is interesting to notice that the place looks busy even if there are no people to be seen around. Only the snow covered mountain tops in the background give a hint of Alaska.

Hello Paul!
Your choice of low light reveals a gorgeous palette of colors. The sea and ridges in bg add a lot of romanticism to the scene.
So beautiful!
