Photographer's Note

Dedicated to Marianne Snakers: Thanks for the encouragement and inspiration.

Marinanne, this is the place I told you about the couple next to me from Belgium, their battery failed and they have there spare batteries back in the motel. They were devastated. The sun was setting fast. What to do? They’ve come this far for this moment and only to have this happened to them. I realized that they used the same battery, and I had my spare one, so I loaned it to them so they can at least take some pictures there. They were almost in tears. It was a great feeling to come to their rescue and save their perfect sunset as the golden sun shining on the Delicate Arch.

Okay, so we must have seen images of this place a thousand times, so what’s the harm looking at it one more time. One can never truly experience how amazing this place is except being there in person. Mother Nature is an amazing architect.

Delicate Arch is a 52 feet tall freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah.

It is the most widely-recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on both Utah license plates and a postage stamp commemorating Utah's centennial anniversary of statehood in 1996. The Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics passed through the arch

At most time of the day, there will always be people standing under the arch trying to take pictures with it. At sunset all the serious photographers gather around the arch waiting for that perfect moment, when the sun is setting to take pictures. At that time, anyone who dares to go in there will get yelled and booed at and will be told to get out. It was very funny actually to see that. I actually was hoping to have a couple people underneath it looking up or something but not posting for pictures, so you can compare and see the scale of the arch.
