Who is bigger?
What would you say, who is bigger, the stone structure in the foreground or the man in the background?
I asked this question to many of my friend and relatives and they all said, that the stone structure must be bigger. But they all were wrong, this is just a trick!
-->The stone structure is just a cairn, approximately 50 centimeters high and the man is enjoying his view a hundred meters away from it.

The photo
I took this picture on the way up to the Delicate Arch in the Arches National Park near Moab. The way up was really nice to walk, but it was also very hot. Anyway, it was really worth the effort in addition to seeing the wonderful arch.

I hope you like it and can give me some good hints,
Jonas

Interesting juxtaposition of the cairn and the skylined figure, although I think it would have worked better with more of a gap between them, with the man on the right side of the frame.
With a tiny bit more depth of field (shooting at f/11 or f/16, say) you could have completed the illusion, making it seem like the man was next to a large rock formation.
Clever shot Jonas.

Cheers,
Ben

Hello Jonas,

A very funny photo very well managed. The visual effect is strong and all the elements are well placed in the frame.

Hi Jonas,
I'd say... the cloud in the sky that is even farther than the man in the background! just kidding.
Interesting and clever composition with a great quality. Love the game of lights and shadows cast on the stone structure.
Regards,
Maria

Hello,Jonas,
I like the comparison between the rocks and the man's size.
I find the colours neat, bright and yet not aggressive.Well, I hope, this man has fun there and he understands he is not more important than these rocks:)

Hey Jonas!

Phil

Hallo Jonas!

Superfoto, Kompliment! Barbara.

Hi Jonas,
Good shot very well composed with interesting subject. Good and creative POV with beautiful colors and contrasts indeed. Best regards, Consuelo

What a great optical illusion, Jonas!
Who says the camera can't lie?

Superb composition, colours and details.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi, friend!
It is very interesting composition. I like your idea. Good warm colours and nice light. I like your idea. Well done.

Hi Jonas,

Mark

Hey Jonas!
Meine erste Reaktion: Was? Willsch mich verarschen?^^
Das is ja der Hammer! Das fasziniert mich wirklich. Wie kann das gehn?
Also zum Photo:
Super Bild!
Grüße, Kris

Hi Jonas,

good job well done
cheers

That's a brilliant juxtaposition, i thought it one of the wonders of stonehenge. Nice shot, very nice.

Very clever shot Jonas. You had a great idea, and perspective and your low POV have done the rest. The cairn really looks like one of Utah's major wonders. Good work

Hi Jonas,

Beautiful visual effect on this excellent photograph. A well calculated glance. I like much the harmony of the colors in your composition. Well done Jonas, cheer.

With all my friendships and very good Sunday,

Jean-Charles

50cm? haha, a good one to show how perceptive scale can be in photography. I wouldn't bet on a huge size of many meters, but I wouldn't guess 50cm either. Excellent exercise, Jonas.
Have a good end of WE,
(I mean, enjoy the game... ;-)

Excellent ! Simple and effective compo--the stones with their colors and textures, the blue sky with fluffy clouds, the lonely tourist...

Andreea

Great image,
I was just thinking where is this spot you took this photo, I thought it look interesting. I was just about to say that the man give a sense of scale to how big this rock formation is. I guess it's the opposite. so it was not a huge rock formation. Great shot, you fooled me completely too. Excellent job, I love it.

Hallo Jonas,
It looks like a giant inukshuk, a picture that delivers an excellent luminous impression and looking at the guy we can get an idea of how heavy this is !
Have a nice day JY

Hola Jonas:

I love this type of photos.
The key of the success obviously has the composition, it is very intelligent and simple simultaneously, very aesthetic.
The sky and the rocks in the first flat sound a delight and the idea that transmits us with this photo is plural and varied but always positive, optimistic and interesting in any case.
Friend congratulated you, for the good work for the prank of the size of the stones and the man

Un saludo y hasta pronto.

Very nice and clever composition, Jonas! The colours are beautiful and those rocks are amazing. Very nice trick! Well taken!

Hello Jonas,
very interesting composition: the illusion is quite perfect, even if it the trick is more effective in the small version of TE...
To be perfect you should have chosen focus (more or less the man) and aperture (f-stop as high as possible) in manner that the stone were beyond the hyperfocal distance, so getting a perfect focus from the stone to infinity.
Congratulations and TFP, Dario.

It's a very nice natural sculpture.

Hello Jonas
You managed to fool us & effectively so! Your low POV, the closeness to the cairn, definitely makes the man look smaller. I see you used a Panasonic for this picture (which I had so far & was a fantastic camera), where minimum is restricted to F/8. If you'd shot with one of your DSLRs, a narrower aperture would have brought the man into focus & completed the illusion perfectly. Just my thoughts...but hat's off to your idea, concept & execution. Well done!
Best Regards
Angshu

Bonjour Jonas,
Regards.
daniel.

Hello Jonas,
This picture is very interesting and a good lesson to show the play on perspectives.
Well done
Estelle
