| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
I was wandering around the Metropolitan Museum of Art when I spotted a family showing their youngster some Van Gogh paintings. The father noticed me and my camera, and offered to pose his son for this shot. Son did not seem sure about the idea, so as a reward, father then showed him some more Van Goghs, upside down (see the WS).
One could argue (I know I did) whether the main and WS pictures should be reversed, but in the end I decided I liked the expression on the boy's face here; it makes a true portrait. |

A very beautiful portrait with sweet expression. The ws is also very cute, a great moment captured! I think this little guy will be a successful artist in the future :) TFS

hehe, daniel, that's some method of showing someone van gogh (the WS photo). now i regret, i did not use it with my son when he was in that age :)) as to the portrait itself: the expression is priceless and father's hands truly bring about feeling of 'presenting' on top of nicely filling up the background. i have one 'itch' though: it seems your focus was on the hair of father's hands rather than the boy's eyes. i am surprised about it being like that at f/9.0 though. f/9.0 should have given you sufficient DOF to get both in focus. hmm... but why use f/9.0 in this situation anyway? as wide as possible would have given you better speed too (in case the kid moved).
warm regards,

What a little cutie he is, although he seems unimpressed by your camera. His pose with father's arms each side works well as a composition. It seems a little soft, but at 1/20sec handheld(?) that is hardly surprising. I love the WS and think possibly it would have made the better main post. I see you debated with yourself on the issue. ;D
