[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Sometimes I have a photo in my mind that makes me want to return to certain places. This wall painting was one of these ideas. The building has a street lamp (which you can see in my previous post) and I thought it would make a great picture with the lamp at night, sort of complementing with this wall painting, and the lamp would serve as a my star shining. We left the campground after not enjoying much of our meal as the sun went down fast and I thought of this famous blue hour that I wanted to use. As we arrived, there was this huge truck standing right in front of the building taking away the whole view but there was also no lamp going and the wall was standing in complete darkness. When I was sorting out my pictures after returning from our vacation I saw from my daylight pictures that there was no bulb screwed in, and I had to smile thinking of all the efforts we went through, not eating right, missing out on the wonderful sunset and sitting in the car instead, but on the other hand I thought that the situation was quite funny looking at the empty lamp now. And this leads me to a film I have started to see some days ago and that I want to finish tonight “Two days in Paris” with July Delpy and Adam Goldberg when she thinks loud about their recent trip to Venice when she was hoping to hold hands with her boyfriend in a gondola but instead he was taking 65 pictures of the Pizza Grande and 58 of something else, and I had someone clapping on my knees beside me when watching the film meaning me and I had to laugh but this is how it goes when you are committed to something.

The town of Gunnison where this building stands is a good place to explore the area if you want to do some of the Mountain Passes (I think of Cottonwood) or Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (one of the most exciting National Parks in my eyes and as it is not on the main tourist routes very often left out … on the south rim last year we were with only three other cars … heaven!!!!) but it has also a nice main street with plenty of old buildings and a great steak house (The Old Miner).

Hallo Barbara ;-)
You post at extremely slow pass and you know were i'm waiting for...the Dead Horse thing ;-)
Stiil in Gunnison i see, seems you enjoyed that place? Seeing the previous one and this closer version i have to admit they fit nice to each other.
Have a nice evening, Henk

Hello Barbara,

quel effet, cette terre coupée, puis ce beau ciel, mangigique, l'effet fait vraiment rêver, on a même drtoi à des étoiles,, c'est le jour et la nuit sur la même image, génial.

Bravo et amitiés

Nicou

Hello dear Barbara,
This one has also quite a big graphical effect. Very nice cloudy blue sky, builds an amazing background for the wall paintings.
TFS and have a nice weekend
Best regards
MESUT ILGIM

PS.My German is far better than my english; may I post my critics also in German ?

Hi Barbara,
Gunnison, uh? Been there, and I'll be passing through in a few weeks once again.
If I spot this SPOT I might take a couple shots of it too!
Now, about YOUR shot : I like the way you framed it, those wonderful blues and the nice graphical effect.
An interesting, good follow-up to "Discovering Places". Thanks for sharing and thanks for the great note!
Have a nice evening, I'll be seeing you soon.
Ciao,
Fulvio.

Hi Barbara,
It's a visually weird pic and with less impact compared
to your previous post, but boy - was I laughing reading
your note in which, I'm sure, every enthusiast can recognise
themselves!
It might have worked better if you have stepped a bit closer
to the wall and dedicate 3/4 of a frame to it.
This way, as it is, I've got a problem with the upper part
that is too bright for the lower part of the frame (and
all that because of the huge white cloud hanging above the 'red planet').
That much about how I see 'artistic' value of the shot,
but as an idea I think it's very good and without any
doubts - inspirational!
Thanks a lot,
Robi

Hi, Barabara -

A neat photo, and a bit of a reversal here, with the stars on the bottom and the clouds on top. Nice catch!

Best,
Dan

An excellent and beautiful idea. This night under a blue sky is quite poetic. I regret you "cut" the moon (but I can imagine it's akind of symmetry because you had to cut the cloud) but I do enjoy the starry wall... A great inspiration.

hello barbara

interesting: the diagonal cut of the wall, the painted moon and night-sky against the clear daylight blue above. almost surreal. and, of course, your note... reads like a novel!

warm regards,
kristaps

Hi Barbara
We have all done that. We have a vision of what a shot should look like and alas disappointment but then sometimes we get unexpected surprises from the other shots so it balances out. I like the simplicity here with the one strong diagonal line and the split in colours.

hei Barbara,
thanks, I was laughing out loud when I was reading your note about missed sunset and missing light bulb :))))) I know exactly how you feel, and hat off for having a courage to laugh about yourself :)
but back to the photo - I like a lot this abstraction. interesting how the strong diagonal seems to divide not only nature (sky) from man-made object (the wall), but also day from night, it reminds me a little of some Medieval clocks with similar ornaments, in Strasbourg cathedral may be. bold colours work well too, very nice image.

Kristine

Hello Barbara
The idea is really good, quite inspired I must say...the moonlit sky with stars under the blue sky with clouds hit by broad sunlight. The split compo. works well & it's only after seeing the link of your last post, I could appreciate this even better.
Best Regards
Angshuman

Nice design work here, Barbara, it makes me think of a flag. The "moon" blends well with the clouds. You're right about the benefits of getting away from the main highways--that's the way you really feel you're experiencing a place. Hiking is even better--I feel I haven't really visited a country or region if I haven't hiked there. Regards, Ken.

The painting and the real sky mixed into one image, strange yet interesting, it great that you find your spot in this great country, there so much to see and do, I could really decide what to see or do this fall there so many to choose from. Thanks for sharing and the note.

Hello barbara

simple yet skillfull comosition. It results in a very graphic shot while your title turns that image into some sort of a short story.

Congratulations

Emmanuel
