Photographer’s Note

There was an eerie silence as we drove through the Bunyip State Forest only a month after the massive bush fire that raged through this area on Saturday 7th 2009, this was very close to home, my backyard really. There wasn't much that survived here, the only plants that showed any signs of life were these Grass trees and even they were struggling. There were no birds or animals to be seen - a deathly silence!

mother nature never ceases to amaze me the way she recovers from disasters.
great contrast in colours from the black and brown of the surrounding area to the vivid green of the new shoots. good shot well done,chris

Hi Peter,
One of the strangest views of nature I've seen. Evolution has created special ways to survive fires. Bright green gives strong contrast to black burnt surfaces. Well framed and thick black borders suit well.

Hi Peter, nice clear & pin sharp, fantastic & very natural looking colours, I guess this greenery is not a rare sight after the devastation of the bushfires but I think this would stand out because of that splash of bright green foliage & being surrounded by the black trees. I also like the light & little bit of brown. I experienced that deadly quite & the smell of ash, frightening.

Nice composition revealing the extreme harshness of fire yet how quickly nature kicks its self back up. Great colours, great framework. Love the verticle in this case.
