Photographer’s Note
I came across this family of Welcome Swallows in Yarra Bend Park. They were perched on a branch over the river waiting for the parents to come with food.
Welcome Swallows are common in the southern states of Australia. They eat insects which they catch on the wing, using their speed and acrobatic flying skill.
Yarra Bend Park is the largest area of natural vegetation near the City of Melbourne, the landscape varies from steep, wild river escarpments to open woodlands, formal parkland, playing fields and golf courses. It has over 16 km of river frontage, and superb views of the city and the Dandenongs from the higher areas.

Hello Steve,
I have been waiting for you to post something from the Yarra Bend, now it is virtually at your door step. This one requires a good timing with the bird in flight figuring out a landing spot. Good sharpness of the subjects and excellent bokeh.
Cheers

Hi Steve
Nicely captured mate! Shape as a pin stopping the fledgling in flight, a well controlled shot with a brilliant POV, I know how difficult it can be to manage such a shot, you need lots of patience.
This works well TFS

Hi Steve, A real beauty, nature at it's best, the sloping branch with the three swallows I think would have enough but the one frozen in flight adds interest & there is a lovely bit of interaction going on between those three, it is Spring !!!! who knows whats on their mind.
Well done, excellent natural looking colours, really standout from the blurred BG.
Cheers

Hi Steve, the beating of that little fella's wings is just superb and I like how his friend below also seems to be admiring his work. Excellent shallow DOF and sharpness of your subjects. Nice work, should we be calling you the Birdman of Victoria because you really do nail these nature shots. Have a lovely week and TFS, Lisa
