Photographer’s Note
Baroka is a well known lookout in the Grampian ranges, and offers spectacular views of Halls Gap and the surrounding country side. Whenever we are around the Grampians we drive up just to check this view,as a matter of interest we went to this location at dawn, to see in the year 2000. As the morning sun popped up we were suprised to see dozens of other people in and around the rocks clapping and cheering, which I felt as quite a moment in time. I tried to get a clear shot the day before, but the valley was filled with cloud, which is quite normal. On this day as you can see,is quite clear.

Hi Mike,
What a great view, absolutely stunning.
Good composition, using the rock ledge in the foreground really gives some depth to the shot.
Here's a point to consider with regard to this shot, I think you need to be aware of where the camera is focusing, although you shot this at f/8 on a 28mm lens the DOF hasn't carried all the way through to the background. What it looks like to me is the AF has taken the rock ledge as the focal point which has just knocked the edge off the background focus. Maybe a couple of stops more, say f/11, could have given you the DOF to carry all the way through.
One more tip, straight horizons always look better than a slight tilt, this shot is running down to camera left, not by much but it takes the gloss off a fine shot.
Anyway, the shot is very inviting, I'd love to go there and visit.
Have a good weekend.
Cheers
Peter
