Photographer’s Note
Visited Luna Park at St Kilda on Friday night with TE members KSChanna and Skippy007 for a night walk. Took some interesting shots of the rides there, unfortunately we were banned from using tripods so we had to find something to support the camera to get these time exposure shots.
From Wikipedia
Melbourne's Luna Park is a historic amusement park located on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay in St Kilda, Victoria, which is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Designed and developed by Frederick Ingersoll, it opened in 1912 and has been operating ever since. It is the first of two Luna Parks still operating in Australia; the other is on Sydney Harbour.
The main historic features of the park include the iconic "Mr Moon" gateway (1912, restored 1999), the Scenic Railway (1912) which is the oldest continuously-operating roller coaster in the world, and the US built carousel (1913 restored 2000). Other historic attractions include the Ghost Train dating from 1934, and the fairytale castle-style Dodgem's Building constructed to house the newly patented ride in 1927 (the ride itself was relocated from the first floor of this building to the ground level in the late 1990s).
The park also includes many modern attractions such as the Metropolis roller-coaster, the Spider, a Ferris wheel, and other mechanical thrill-rides. The park remains popular with children and their parents who have fond memories of the park from their youth.
A consortium headed by Melbourne transport magnate Lindsay Fox bought Luna Park in early 2005, pledging to restore it to the glory he remembers from his 1940s youth, spent in nearby Windsor. Since the multi-million dollar purchase, there has been no major overhaul, but the Scenic Railway Station was given a facelift, popular temporary attractions such as the Lara Croft Tomb Raider experience have been presented, and a major section of the Scenic railway itself underwent major repairs between December 2007 and June 2008.
Melbourne Luna Park
The park's triangular beachfront site is on government land, bounded by the O'Donnell Gardens on one side and Cavell Street on the other. Across this street is a larger triangle of foreshore crown land known as the 'Triangle Site', occupied by the grand 1920s Palais Theatre, the 1970s Palace nightclub (burned down in 2007), and carparking. The City of Port Phillip in consultation with the Victorian State Government ran a tender process in 2007 to restore the Palais Theatre and redevelop the remainder of the site. Lindsay Fox was part of a consortium that submitted a proposal which was unsuccessful. Melbourne's Luna Park is said to be more popular in general than Sydney's Luna Park, as Sydney's has no large rollercoaster, and Melbourne's is more authentic.
The park has featured on several occasions in the popular Australian soap opera Neighbours
Luna Park as a whole is listed by the National Trust of Australia, and the main heritage features are listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

Salut Peter,
Superbe ! Le choix du temps de pose est judicieux et le rendu superbe. L'impression 3D est terrible et les couleurs superbes.
J'adore !
Bon dimanche.

I love the fired up circle, the compo is very good considering how difficult it was to compose a decent shot of this ride. I see you've manged to put some text on teh picture as well. Well done.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Peter, this is one helluva shot. Your control of the shutter, the light and the composition are flawless. I like the tight cropping and the amazing clarity of the image. I dips me lid to ya. Thanks for sharing. BTW there's a real carnival theme going on in TE, check out some of Pixel Terror's carnival shots, and of course there's your beloved son-in-law's extraordinary B&W. Think I'll make a Theme! TFS and have a wonderful Sunday, what's left of it, Lisa.

Hello Peter
This may just be one of my favorite Amusement Part photo.
The effect of the 4 second long exposure is breathtaking. Cropping must have proven to be difficult, but you managed it well.
There is even a star captured in the top left of the photo.
excellent work

Hi Peter,
Our Lisa (delpeoples) would be green with envy at this spectacular capture, she is a master of the long exposure, ha, until now that is. :)))
It's a great shot, exceptional POV, I like the way you've cropped off the sides to accentuate the central axis of the wheel.
No tripod either, makes the shot even better because of your ingenuity.
Top shot.

Peter

Hi Peter, I've seen lots of shot of Luna park, but this one stands alone. Avoiding the somewhat cliched shots and going for a dramatic effect. nice idea and well executed. Cheers, sTeve

Hi Peter, this is awesome, colour & light are just fantastic & without a tripod to boot, not sure if I'm game enough to post one of mine but will have a closer look. It contrasts well against the black sky & is well framed with the close crop working really well. A very colourful image full of impact. Nice one. I like your informative & interesting note, surprising how much of that I knew & forgotten ;-)
Cheers

Hi Peter,
A very imaginative long exposure composition which with the tight crop creates a strong visual impact. Excellent work

Hello,
I never tried this kind of photo in Lunapark, but looking to this result I should try next time an one is coming in town.
The selected composition with circle touching the frame is working. Usually full dark sky are not suitable, but here, as small part of the picture, it increases the strengh of the colors.

Awesome long exposure Peter!
Loved how the circular motion came out. Looks like more of an artwork from the thumbnail view.

Well done, especially if made without tripod. What did you use to support your camera? I think it was impossible to stand unmoving for 4 seconds, so come on, let me know your trick :-)

Hi Peter
Interesting light effects! Hand-steadied time-elapsed shots are indeed tricky but you managed well here. The colours are warm and vivid. Fairly good clarity on the stable parts of the shot.
Great work,
Tosca
