Photographer's Note

A big section of The Rocks in Sydney had to be demolished when they were building the harbour bridge so it is no surprise that the bridge keeps popping up in the background.
This photo was taken in Lower Fort St and shows one of the classic early sandstone buildings, at one stage a shop. The other buildings in the photo date from the very early 20th century. There had been a bubonic plague in the area in 1900 and lots of the old buildings were demolished in the clean up.
Lower Fort St is on the western side of The Rocks so away from the main tourist area beside Circular Quay and therefore much more quiet.
