Photographer's Note

Rising 64m above ground the sight of this Grasmere wind turbine tells me that I am right on track to the Billbulmun Trail. Each piece of this baby can power up to 1200 households. There are six of these German made turbines in the Grasmere Wind Farm, each generating 30 % more power than of the earlier generation of Albany’s Wind Farm turbines. Together (18 turbines) they have the capacity to produce 35.4 MW of clean, inexhaustible, renewable electricity. On average they provide 80% of Albany’s annual electricity needs. The blades are 35.5 metre long, integrated with lightning protection, made of fibreglass with epoxy resins for greater flexibility in handling extreme weather conditions.
