Photographer’s Note
The Australian Pelican is the largest species of Pelican standing up to 1.8m with a wingspan of 3.4m. They can live up to 25 years.
This one was found at Ricketts point, with Alfred (alftrek) and Santo (skippy007).
Ricketts Point is a marine sanctuary on Port Philip bay in the south east surburbs of Melbourne. The sandstone rock extends from the shore and supports a wide variety of flora and fauna.

hello Steve
Nice capture in full flight and wings spread coming in to land. I have seen this myself at an inland lake we were camped beside in NSW, There was squadron after squadron gliding in to land on water, just awesome! didn't have a decent camera with telephoto then, shame.
Good sharp image and well composed.
Beautiful shot

Hi Steve,
Great shot, you've caught this big fella perfectly.
I like the very short depth, the sharp head and body but with the wing tips just losing focus. It looks almost 3D.
I've tried to capture a shot like this out the back of the house but no luck so far.
Cheers

Hello Steve,
I was convinced by Skippy007 that this is a penguin and not a pelican, I heard him referring to this bird as a penguin repeatedly;))
A nice panning shot with colourful and blur BG while the "penguin" is in sharp focus beside the wings. This is going to put mine to shame.

Hi Steve.
Great sharp capture with that monster lens of yours. Absolutely spot-on focus and good timing. Background blur suggests you were panning. I wonder what shutter speed you need to 'freeze' the wing-tips? These birds are majestic in flight; I always think a few of them look like a 'squadron' in formation. Anyway, great shot.
Regards,
Andrew
