[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
This opportunity was spotted by my friend Rino at the 2003 Stockman's Challenge in Cloncurry, Queensland. The modern Australian cowboy doesn't consider himself properly dressed unless he's wearing an Akubra hat. I wanted to abstract the spectators, cut them off from what they were spectating and make them in turn the ones being "spectated". I just wish the brown horse wasn't poking his head into the frame on the right, although maybe without him that area would be a bit empty.

Classic Aussie shot! If you don't like the horse try using the crop option on your photo program and crop 1/10 of the pic at the top to cut the horse out but still leave the effect of the row of hats. You have produced an interesting peice here, well done!
Nice one!
Julie

Great repetition here, made even better by the men all being in one line. Normally in these type of shots there at least one person whos wearing something different, but every single person in this shot is wearing an akubra.

Oh, but you don't notice the horse, only the line of hats, that look as if they have a life of their own...funny picture!

Nice river of hats! You found an interesting POV! Repetition is very good. If you like to see this kind of situation, I recently post a repetition on my page. Your shot is very nice. Nice DOF!

I like this, Phillip, it has a nice rhythm, nicely interrupted a bit by the one man's hands on the railing. But I think it might be better if you showed some of what they are looking at. Regards, Ken.

Hi Philip,
This is a fine shot for sure. I like the linearity (is it a word?) and the verticality of this shot. They are looking in the same direction, which makes this shot interesting. Too bad about the two black hats!
But I will have to agree with Ken that in this case, it would be nice to see what the men are looking at. Maybe only change the angle a bit, so that we do not loose the line of hats, and still see what they are looking at, even if we can't see it well.
Another thing I have noticed is the horse's head on the right of the photo. I think it is too dark, and it would have been good to clearly see it. But it's inclusion is a definite plus to my eyes.
Also, there seems to be litter on the dirt, i'm guessing it is a beer can or something. I think it would have been a good idea to clone it with Photoshop.
Another thing is the man's watch. It is almost like an anachronism. I don't really like it, but I know there is nothing you can do about it.

But overall, a very nice shot, and I definately understand why you like it.

Best Regards
Louis

hi Phillip .
this one is uniq.very interesting pov.
David

Hiya Phillip, you got a classic here mate, love the repetition, they must of had a sale of lighter coloured Akubas, lol Don't mind the dark horse rather its the white one that is a tad distracting, nice composition, humourous capture!
