This facility was formerly known as Callan Park Hospital for the Insane (1878 to 1914) and is located in the grounds of Callan Park, an area on the shores of Iron Cove in the Sydney suburb of Lilyfield in Australia.

In 1915 the facility was renamed Callan Park Mental Hospital, and again in 1976 to Callan Park Hospital.

Since 1994, the facility has been known as Rozelle Hospital.

In April 2008, all Rozelle Hospital services and patients were transferred to Concord Hospital.

In July 2008 this facility is now closed and out of use awaiting its fate. Large parts of this property could soon be re-zoned to make way for high-rise apartments.

Note the large flowering jacaranda tree on the left which adds to the heritage of the building.

Hi Russel,
I always enjoy shots of aspects of my city, and this capture is wonderful. Too bad the developers are going to get their hands on this piece of our heritage. Great shot, thanks for sharing.
Regards
Peter

Hi Russell,
A very nice & well balanced composition. Wonderful bloom. The path creates a nice leading line to the old hospital. It's a pity the facility has to make way for modern apartment complex. A piece of history will be gone. Anyway I like the lighting, blue sky, and shadows here ... photo might be slightly oversharpened. Regards. Latiff.

Hi Russel,
this is very well composed. I think the sandstone would benefit from a polarizer here, to allow more detail to come through. I like the jackaranda on the left providing a nice balance to the photo. I hope the local community does not allow this beautiful building to be demolished.
Rob.

Hi Russel,

Its a pity if this place is torn down. It seems that you had a nice weather while there, the light was good and you got nice contrast and colors.

Regards,

Flavia
