| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
| Before traveling to the Outback, I came in contact with two men from the Netherlands who had just visited it. They warned me and my friend about the sand--they said it was so red that after spending a week there that ourselves and all that we owned would blend in with it--and they were right. We spent days in the desert without showering or really washing our hands, and when we first reached civilization, a small Aboriginal town where the first thing we sought was a public bathroom, it took me eight times of soaping and washing my hands until they even came close to clean. And when we returned to our homes in Mansfield and I was able to wash my clothing, the sink filled with a thick layer of the red sand. Two years later, some of my whiter clothes still haven't recovered, and retain a reddish gray color. |
