Photographer’s Note
When I first arrived in NZ July 2008 this was my first port of call for Auckland West Coast beach photography. A year and bit on I decided to go back as our weather here finally decided to be sunny for a change. Nothing has changed with this West Coast setting. The Maori descendent feeling really still makes the hairs on your neck stand up (Whatipu is steeped in Maori History). Again like last time I was the only one here this evening, apart from the end when others came for final sundown. A must place to see if you are ever in the Waitakere region.

Hi Jim,
I agree, this place has deserved attention! This is a fantastic impression - a masterpiece in every sense - with very beautiful colors and an amzing light that is emphasizing the atmosphere you are describing in your note. For me this is the essence of NZL. Congratulation!
Warm regards

Hi Jim
Nice coastal landscape indeed, and lovely light making the image luminous, also the clouds hanging in the sky are very nice, is this a lighthouse there on top of this big rock ?
Have a nice day JY

Hello Jim,
Beautiful sight with the rocks rising steep out of the sea. The reflections are wonderful in the water with the many little waves and the lighthouse on the highest and tallest rock looks impressive.
Best regards, Paul

Hello Jim! A beautiful corner of this world, looks so peaceful, so quiet. You had wonderful light, the best, how we love it. What is this up there, this little house, a lighthouse ... an outhouse :))) LOL. I am in a good mood as you can see but I still wonder why your blue one had so little response, it is fantastic, as this one is. Here I like the soft ripples on the water, just softly but they add something special. Best regards, Barbara.

Hello Jim,
This is a special landscape, and the weather cooperate well to make the place look its best!
Many interesting details, I notice something that must be the least accessible lighthouse in the world hehehe...
Lovely light, fine clouds and nice reflections!

Hi Jim.
Nice catch, good use of the wet sand for pattern and reflections. The late sun has provided beautiful colour and nice modelling. Good work and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Jim, this place is magnificent. The photo really evokes the beauty and ruggedness of the land and its proud people. Those reflections would have to be among the best I've seen. THe depth is superb and that feeling of solitude and peace just permeates the whole image. TFS, Lisa.

Hi Jim
This is a very charming vision, well framed, with those bright colors and the reflections. The quality of the light leaves me speechless and amazed. The shape of the rock on the left to the lighthouse peak, makes me think to a sea elephant sprawling on the shore. Funny. Congratulations!

hi Jim,
is that a lighthouse on top of the cliff? or is it the fairy tale castle with the princess locked in the highest room of the highest tower? :) in any case, the scene is breathtaking, the luminous light seems to be gliding over the water causing that beautiful texture. may be a touch uneven polarization in the corners, but that's such a minor point that I shouldn't be mentioning it at all :)

Kristine

Hi Jim
I just love the pattern of the sandy beach like those that we see often on a desert sand dune shot, but what is so cool here is that is it wet with low tide yet you can still see the pattern and at the same time see the reflection of the scenery and sky. the sky is beautiful with fantastic cloud, the sunset light illuminated the rocks so perfectly. And off course your excution in capturing this moment is just right on with good exposure, well manage light and composition. Just breath taking scenery and beautiful photography.

Hello Jim
The patterns of the wet sand and the reflections on it are superb. The light is delicious and the play of light and shadow of the clouds on the rocks are fantastic. The lighthouse on the top of the rock seems so lonely up there! How is it accessed...there must be a road or steps on the other side? Superb shot
Regards
Angshu
PS: Long time I am catching up with you...hope everything's fine at your end!
